Ethy barkruk
A worthy finale
Designer Just Meijer has been active since 1960. Now, in his eighties, he felt it was time for a final project. A tribute to his life's work: a circular model that keeps coming back to life. Designers normally work with detailed briefs. For this particular project, we gave him carte blanche.
Straightness is an essential element in Just's work. The unhindered progression of straight lines in properties, buildings and spaces is central to his vision. Ethy is designed to blend effortlessly into this interplay of lines, keeping the clean surrounding contours intact.
Ethy is a timeless series, and a nod to the years of Just's life. A design that is solid at first glance, but proves comfortable and blends seamlessly into any environment.
Cut from the right wood
Our Ethy is made from PEFC-certified oak or beech wood, directly from sustainable German forests. The PEFC label ensures long-term environmental interests, such as preventing soil erosion and biodiversity loss. Also, growing trees absorb CO2, making Ethy not only sustainable but also reducing greenhouse gases. In consultation with the local forest manager, trees that have completed their task are selected and further processed. This makes Ethy more than a piece of furniture; it is the perfect complement to a sustainable future.
Strong, stronger, Ethy
Ethy is strong and flexible thanks to a technique that cuts tree trunks into thin sheets. These "wood sheets" are compressed into an eleven-ply, sturdy back and seat, so sturdy that both the seat and back do not warp. This is just one of Ethy's many clever tricks; Just also found a way to make the seat both thin and comfortable. The completely solid base, with no screws and clever joints, ensures that only a minimal amount of glue is needed in production - water-based, of course.
Something for everyone
Ethy's accommodating character makes it the pacesetter in any situation, from reception areas and dining rooms to conference rooms. Although Ethy wears clear lacquer as standard, you have your choice of many stain colors. The covers for the back and seat are easy to change and wash, making Ethy last for generations, living up to its name. Are the circular fabrics "used up," and ready for a new life? No problem! Because they are made from recycled raw materials, they are fully recyclable and we keep the material in the chain.
