A new beginning

Years ago, interior designer Erik Munnikhoff created Scala's first design. In his search for a timeless product that can be used anywhere, he stumbled upon the production technique of rotational molding.

Suddenly, the possibilities seemed endless. The choice of this technique enabled Erik to create large, hollow, yet sturdy products consisting of a single piece. To this, Scala owes its double-curved forms. Over time, the model faded into the background.

Until now. We are breathing new life into the model, our way. A second life for a design that has earned its mark - and this time leaves none behind.

Material

Waste becomes design

Our Scala consists of 100% recycled polyethylene made from collected artificial grass, fishing nets and toys. After a careful sorting process, the separated waste is shredded, melted and poured into a steel mold. When this is cut into pellets, what remains is 100% pure regranulate. Ready for a new life!

Mode of production

This is how Scala takes shape

A sturdy, seamless armchair that can take a beating: we achieve this thanks to the technique of rotational molding. We heat the regranulate and pour it into a rotating mold. The rotary motion distributes the material evenly over the mold, and gives Scala its shape. Thanks to this technique, Scala is manufactured from 100% recycled materials, and can be effortlessly recycled again in the future.

Use & longevity

Firm character

The Scala is flexible and stays in place, especially if you fill the armchair with water or sand. Thanks to its water-repellent plastic and drain channel, it is ideally suited for indoor and outdoor use. The material is UV-resistant, which means it will stand firm in temperatures up to 60 degrees. Want more comfort? Then choose to add the durable cushions.
