Our new showroom at Fort Honswijk
The Fort Honswijk, beautifully situated on the river Lek, is a 175-year-old cultural-historical and scenic icon. Not only that, the property is also the site of our new showroom!
The so-called Stelling van Honswijk, just south of Utrecht, is the monumental heart of the most complete waterline landscape in the Netherlands. It is also the oldest tower fortress of the Netherlands' largest national monument, the Nieuwe Hollandse Waterlinie, which has been nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
For more than two centuries, the Hollandse Waterlinies have been an example of Dutch water management, military architecture and landscape planning. An ensemble of defense works form a 200-kilometer ribbon with over a hundred forts and five fortified towns. Connected by over a thousand military and hydraulic objects: inundation channels, locks, dikes and quays, forts and other military structures, of which Fort Honswijk is one. Its function? To prevent the French enemy from crossing the Lekdijk. From the fortress the sluice was guarded which served as an inlet for the river water with which the surrounding area could be flooded.
The ingenious system, an illustration of Dutch inventiveness in land and water management, has been on display since its restoration in 2023, not only for tours and recreation, but also as a place where history and contemporary business meet. For example, the Fort Honswijk Foundation offers companies such as Circuform an inspiring business meeting place. The peaceful surroundings and beautiful nature, overlooking the river Lek, is the perfect place for creativity, business and partnerships.
