Nylon

Nylon 6 is manufactured from fossil fuels, resulting in greenhouse gas emissions and the depletion of natural resources. Our use of recycled nylon 6, sourced from fishing nets, carpets, and post-consumer products, allows us to produce high-quality products after processing and sorting the colorless pellets. For every ton of regenerated ECONYL® nylon, we save seven barrels of crude oil. Recycling carpets can have a positive impact on our world, but it requires everyone's contribution to this change.

Nylon 6 (PA6) has a number of unique properties: high mechanical strength, stiffness, hardness, and toughness. It offers good fatigue resistance, high mechanical damping capacity, excellent wear resistance, and, of course, good processability.

When recycling nylon carpets, they are broken down into three main components: polypropylene, nylon 6, and calcium carbonate (chalk). Polypropylene, which is primarily used for carpet backing, can be reused in injection molding processes. Calcium carbonate, used to reinforce the carpet, finds its application in road construction and concrete. The nylon 6 extracted from carpets can, together with other recycled material such as fishing nets or textile waste, be reused for the production of ECONYL® regenerated nylon, which is used for carpets, furniture, clothing, and other products.
